What is vehicle compliance?
Every imported vehicle, new or used, light or heavy, needs to be inspected and certified before it can be registered and driven on New Zealand roads. It’s how we make sure every vehicle on our roads is safe and up to standard. VINZ are the experts in entry certification. We inspect more than 60,000 imported vehicles each year for importers, dealers, repair workshops, and compliance centres, so you’re in good hands.
Importing a vehicle?
If you’re thinking about importing a vehicle yourself, get in touch with us early. We can give you advice on whether your chosen vehicle is suitable for New Zealand roads before you commit. It’s a lot easier to sort potential issues now than to find out your vehicle doesn’t meet the standards once it’s already landed here.
Once your vehicle passes its entry certification, it’ll be issued with a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) and you’ll be all set to register it and get driving.
Re-registering a vehicle
If your vehicle’s registration has lapsed or been cancelled, it’ll need to be inspected and re-certified before it can be driven again. A re-registration inspection is a bit more thorough than a standard WoF or CoF, it’s a full check to make sure your vehicle still meets all of New Zealand’s road safety standards. Once it passes, you can register it, get new plates, and receive your Certificate of Registration.
